Rosacea
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common skin condition that is linked to an impaired barrier function of the skin. It is commonly recognized by facial flushing, sensitivity, telangiectasias, (dilated blood vessels), papules and persistent redness. Rosacea causes certain facial blood vessels to enlarge, giving the face a flushed appearance. It can also produce small red bumps, patches of dry skin and swollen areas of the face, often including the nose. Potential causes of rosacea are unstable blood vessels, genetics, intestinal overgrowth of bacteria and/ or excessive exercise where the person becomes too warm for extended periods. Irritants such as fragrance, alcohols, abrasives and other irritating substances can cause a flare-up as well.
